Pros/ Cons of an automatic

{"text":"So I am having to give up my truck. Its a 2015 freight and Ive put 115k miles on it in the year Ive had it. Now the company is putting me into a 2020 Freightshaker Cascadia (sounds nice right) but its an automatic 😭😤. Ive only been trucking for 2 1/2 years, all freights, all 10 gears. Plus I learned to drive at 16 on a 5 spd Honda and have mostly spent my personal driving in a 5 speed. Can yall weigh in on whats so great about the auto? What problems should I be expecting to run into? It only has 37 miles on it but Im not too thrilled about it. 😞 Thanks 💖","videos":"[]","link":"{}","pics":"[]","canComment":true}

The auto gives you that space back between the seats, you can let it do the work in traffic, your clutch leg can finally rest, adaptive cruise control can pace at a wider range since it won’t cancel waiting for you to shift, and it’s more fuel efficient 😁 ","replyToPid":0}

{"replyTo":"","text":"Shift slowly from gear to gear (drive to reverse) this makes the “CA” come up on the dash. Means clutch actuator. Also, expect the XY sensor to go out occasionally. Service light on the shifter will blink. You’ll have to hit the shoulder and shut it off and let it set and restart. Until it finally goes. ","replyToPid":0}

{"replyTo":"","text":"Pros: as stated before clutch leg gets a break and it’s heavenly in heavy traffic. I don’t know about the cascadia but the only automatic I drove for a while was the Volvo 670 2012 and it was okay. I did have more storage space and it had the 5th wheel release on the dash which was awesome. You can have it set for automatic-like a car D for drive R reverse, etc or put it on M for manual shift. Bump the “turn signal” type lever (on the right if I remember correctly) up to upshift and down for downshift. That was kinda cool but weird at the same time. I only drove mine about 3 months and traded back to my standards because I like grabbing gears and feeling more in control.\nCons: it SU)$& in snow and ice! You’ll be locking interaxle constantly during the winter if you do mountains. Jakes aren’t worth a dang so mash the brakes before you get to the top or you’ll be stab braking to control your decent. The distance perception anti collision system is ridiculous. It’ll hard brake for an underpass shadow and stay on cruise with a dang deer jumping in front of you. Good God I hated that thing. I forget what they call it, but it’s trash. If your 5th wheel is set too far forward or back it’s super sluggish to get moving, and different on each one from my understanding you’ve just gotta play with it to find the sweet spot. \nI used to do LA and Long Beach constantly so for a while it was nice. The backing is kinda weird till ya get used to it too. You’ll feel like you’re backing way too fast because you can’t play the clutch for the comfort zone. That’s what I experienced with an automatic and honestly I won’t go back to it. It just feels wrong to me, plus since I wasn’t grabbing and dropping gears as needed I found myself tired easier and earlier than usual. Turning off creep mode will give you extra time. We have two 2020s both have issues w the radio. it freezes randomly. if you have the volume up it will stay up till you turn off the truck and some tomes you gotta remove the fuse wait 30 sec and replace it.","replyToPid":0}
