Getting my first CB. Need tips

I'm thinking I'd like a CB that goes maybe like 10 miles or so to help with snowstorm accidents and stuff like that. Can I pick something up at one of the truckstops? {"replyTo":"","text":"Since we are all supposed to be transmitting at 4 Watts it turns out range is less about the radio and more about the size of your antenna, number of antennas,, quality of your antenna, the quality of your mount and installation and the location of your mount.\nAlso while on the subject of antennas, the supertruckers that point theirs antennas at a 45 degree angle into the wind are not gaining any effective range, CB radio antennas are omnidirectional which means they send out their waves in concentric circles around the mast, typically you can angle your antenna into the wind by a few degrees so that it stands up straight when being hit with an oncoming head wind, but anything more than that is shooting your signal up into the air behind you or down into the ground.\n4 to 8 miles depending on terrain and atmospheric conditions are possible with any standard Cobra 29, but if you have an older truck with aging antenna mounts you may want to rewire everything... also, factor in the length of your coax cable, Google is your friend.","replyToPid":0}

{"replyTo":"","text":"if you want a radio that good find a good CB shop you cant buy anything like that on the shelf. and have the cb man pair it up to a good antenna too and probably run a new coax as well just dont put it through the door it will pinch it and do damage","replyToPid":0}

{"replyTo":"","text":"Listen get yourself a cobra 29 and have it peaked and tune and get a good set of antennas and an a static or road king rg56 mic and your all set. I do keydown competitions and I tell you cobra is king .. now if you want to get a small amp to give you some distance keep in mind you will have to readjust your Watts   The best is key 1,5 and swing 7 that will hit any amp just fine and not damage it... any other cab questions just post and I will try to answer for you...","replyToPid":0}
