{"replyToPid":0,"replyTo":"","text":"It's always worth being between the ditches with the shiny side up driver. But if you're talking about a life of trucking –I, too, have such thoughts. Here's my conclusion as of late. Was all the time I've spent on the road years away from the 5 children and a wife I love and cherish more than anything else in this world worth the sacrifice of the simple things most people take for granted? Nights spent alone in bed. Days without witnessing a child's first step, a son's first home run, a daughter's first date. Realizing that so few people know you in town that if you ever needed a character witness in court –I'd be hard pressed to find one. \n\nTo say that it was \"worth\" it or not is to ignore the many trade-offs, I believe, any life entails. Also, what is your foundational mantra? The philosophy behind why we do anything we do? As for me, I operate upon the notion that no amount of monetary success can compensate for failure in the home. A treacherous tightrope to be sure for an over the road truck driver. So, in my case, I had to give up asking, \"Was it worth it?\" and simply ask the question...\n\nDid it work? \n\nI apologize if my thoughts are too insensitive to whatever it is that you are going through. I wouldn't want to be presumptuous in equating my problems with yours, but can I ask...\n\nIs it too late?"} |
