{"replyTo":"","text":"Lot of reasons. Starting with deregulation of the trucking industry in 1980, and it's been a race to the bottom ever since. It's mostly due to overcapacity, too many trucks on the road. In the late 70's there was something like 14,000 trucking companies, today there is over 530,000. shippers used to book their freight directly, now they use brokers, who take a cut of the rate. leaving less for the trucker. Which forces guys to decide between losing their truck or just making enough to pay their bills. Sadly, the days of driving a truck being a solid middle class job are over.","replyToPid":0} |
