Can you make an honest living driving local?

{"text":"So, I am wondering are there any drivers out there who make a decent living as a local driver. I recently got on with a new company driving locally, doing flatbed. In the long term is the possibility there to make decent money or should I go back to life on the road? I know it's all subjective and many variables depend on that, but tell me about your experiences. I'm making over $25/hr is that considered decent? I also get $15 for any tarp jobs I do. I can do about 3 a day. {"replyTo":"","text":"It is not bad money, the tarp pay is on the low side, especially if you are doing lumber tarps. I have quite a few buddies doing line haul, they work 4 or 5 days, home every night, weekends off and, pulling down over $100,000. a year.","replyToPid":0}

If they pay you $25 an hour, and you work 55 hrs a week and 51 weeks a year, that’s roughly 70k. So, you’re making good money as a local driver. You definitely want to make over 60k per year and you don’t want to be working over 60 hrs a week or else you’ll feel overworked. \n\nThe best working schedules that I heard of were from Sysco and US Foods. Their working schedules are 4 full days of 12-14 hours, and 3 days off. There was also opportunity to work another day. "}

","text":"I live in Nevada, yes state law states must pay overtime at 1,5, but federal law exempts trucking companies from having to pay it. So, a lot of companies in Nevada do not pay an overtime rate.","replyToPid":435391}
