{"replyTo":"","text":"I can see how it can work again and again, but that’s because it keeps melting the frozen water stuck inside the locking mechanism. Also, the water left behind could be damaging the locking mechanism because frozen water expands. Your method is fine if you don’t have anything else available, but hands down the best method is to use an actual lock de-icer designed for this very purpose. The lock will not freeze again because the liquid is both a de-icer and a lubricant.\n\nThe next thing you need to do after using this lock de-icer is to cover the keyhole to prevent water from entering. You can use tape or a sandwich bag with rubber bands. Also, spray the keyholes with general lock lube (or graphite lube) (also at Walmart) so it keeps the lock working during winter. I suspect that moisture in the air could also be causing problems to the locking mechanism, possibly causing rust or who knows. If the lock is properly lubricated and covered, you’ll have less problems. ","replyToPid":0}

1071983 发表于 2021-06-07 17:31:26 My 389 came with them from the factory. Be careful using them during winter. They will freeze. I broke the key off in one on a previous truck. If you run them in the winter and they are frozen go inside the truck stop and get a hot cup of water from the coffee machine. Slowly pour over the frozen lock. It’ll thaw it in no time.
","text":"Very bad idea! It will thaw it, but you’re looking for more serious freezing down the road! It will freeze again and this time even worse because now water is trapped inside the locking mechanism.\n\nWhat you need is a lock de-icer. Walmart has them for cheap in the isle where they have the wipers. They’re small, but they do work. I carry a couple of them.\n\nI think what could in theory also work is to pour de-icer washer fluid into the lock keyhole. But it has to be de-icer and not the washer fluid that is meant for both summer and winter. I haven’t tried it, but I suspect it could work. On a second thought, the disadvantage with this method is that the liquid might not make it deep into the lock mechanism, while an actual lock de-icer has a small nozzle that goes into the keyhole and the liquid is pressured and works like a spray can.
