{"text":"Hello, I’m pretty new to trucking and been on it only for 3 1/2 years. I work for a guy that has 5 freight liner cascadia. I driven all 5 at some point or another. But my experience with DEF is that you have to pay a lot of attention to your driving habits, rpms, shifting, uphill push, parking rpms and A/C usage and even the diesel you use. We like to use only # 2 and not Bio- don’t know if it makes a difference. There are articles about how DEF has been a challenge even on Buses. We do short trips of 1 hr each way and I also do 6-7 hrs drive and well have manage to learn what each truck likes as driving, shifting, diesel, parked and A/C but sometimes still engine lights come on. Well hope this helps a little on our never ending DEF issues. By the way I’m in central California. And have come across CARB inspection with a DD13 ‘09 and did a smog check and found the engine putting 10.5 % soot and they only want 5% now. Oh well my boss let it go. Despite having the least amount of issues because it didn’t use DEF only the DPF. 🙂","videos":"[]","link":"{}","pics":"[]","canComment":true,"externalShare":false}

279311 发表于 2021-05-09 18:37:26 The aftertreatment system is not maintenance-free. Just like an engine it requires regular inspections and maintenance.\n\nAs the truck gets older, certain parts will begin to malfunction. If you have multiple trucks, you’ll begin to see patterns of how long certain parts last. If you want less problems down the road, you replace the parts before it even becomes an issue. This can be applied to all the parts of truck. For example, the water pump of a truck used in a long haul operation will last about 500k, so to be on the safe side, you replace it at 350k.

Yes, how long parts last can differ from truck to truck. On my truck, the water pump lasted until about 550k. The starter lasted about 600k, my first oil shock went out at about 600k, and my Detroit One Box at about 850k. I’ve met people who have told me theirs lasted much less. You have to use your best judgement as to when the part will fail, and then replace it before. I mean, unless you want to deal with it out on the road and pay a premium for a roadside service mechanic, or worse get towed and pay a dealer while they sit on your truck 5 days. I’ve got a very good paying dedicated load and I need to make sure that my truck won’t be giving me problems. The broker won’t be happy if I tell her that the customer won’t be getting their product on time.

","text":"I have to agree with your point, these newer trucks are not as reliable as the older ones and harder to work on...     I believe they are made this way to keep the dealership parts and service department in business... I've been doing this for over 40 years and alot of this new stuff is unreliable and unnecessary... 👍🇺🇸🙂"}

","text":"I know the method I mentioned sounds counterintuitive. The method, by the way, came from a fleet owner of over 100 trucks who buys used trucks from mega companies.\n\nThink about this. Let’s say your belt tensioner breaks in Montana. That truck won’t be going anywhere. By the time they get the part, you might have to reschedule your delivery appointment.\n\nNow the method is not for every single part on the truck. It’s mostly for anything that could affect the truck from moving. For example, bad shocks will not stop the truck from rolling. They will wear your tires, though. So in general you want to replace parts a bit earlier than usual to have a business that runs smoother. Less headaches."}
