{"text":" Weird malfunction today.\n\nFirst I noticed that the intermittent /delay function wasn't working but it would work fine on high & low.\n\nSo going in & out of rain, then only needing them after trucks passed me & sprayed my windshield, one time when I turned it off, they stopped in the middle of the windshield then when I hit it again I heard a pop. Then nothing.\n\nStopped at a rest area for 3 minutes. Heard grinding coming from the motor. Checked the nut that holds the linkage to it & it was tight.\n\nHauled ass home 40 miles. Called Volvo dealer via \"my Dat trucker\" app & they can't work on it tonight or tomorrow but parts is open til 8. And they're 15 miles further out of route than the house so I just went home, took a picture of the VIN number & hauled ass in the car to the Volvo dealer and got a new wiper motor. Went home and changed it myself.\n\nNot only was the nut tight, but the linkage part was hard to get off the tapered spline shaft. So it was obviously not that.\n\nThe mystery is why would there be two seemingly unrelated problems with the wiper motor?\n\nIt's a motor and a gearbox.\n\nThe intermittent wiper function is electronic & the stripped gears are mechanical.\n\nIs it possible something electrical was malfunctioning & somehow over-volted the motor sending it into super ultra turbo mode just long enough to overstress the gears inside?\n\nIf that's the case, I'm wondering if the brains that control it are in the motor or somewhere else on the truck and it'll trash the new motor too.\n\nThey're working fine right now. Intermittent/delay function too.\n\n:dunno:","pics":"[]","canComment":true}
