{"text":"I understand that with COVID the nature of business is changing. And while this may seem silly to most, I do have a legitimate question for you to ponder. Full disclosure, the idea has been with me for a few months and started over coffee.  Yes I agree its a little thing, however, I am now noticing it everywhere. Do you feel price gouging is occurring as you all travel the states? So at first when everything re-opened it became you cannot refill your mugs with hot or cold beverages, you must purchase their cups.  I can see the concept somewhat, so I looked into it. The actual mandate set by CDC and WHO does not actually restrict this in the manner businesses are implementing it.  I can explain further if you wish, or you can look it up yourself, either way. But again, they're being safe, adapting to all clients, and not risking being shut down by the health dept. Okay I'll roll with that. Except slowly I have watched the prices rise of their coffee, using their cups, to now nearly a dollar more that \"standard\" price.  This morning I paid $2.95 for a 20 oz coffee in their cup. Just regular old brewed, black coffee. Whats my option? Not buy any I suppose.  Had they listed the price anywhere in the store, I would have forgone and chose to go without. (and been a touch grumpy lol). It wasnt listed and I had poured my cup so, OFC I paid for it politely. But then I wondered... I am confident that a year ago that would have been nearly a dollar less.  Now before this business owner opened his store, they would have calculated the cost of the cup, the product, the labor, the profit, etc. So why did the cost change? Can i be sure it did, no. But with watching the costs everywhere I go, its an educated guess. When I have the time, I browse the stores, mostly to move a little, but also just to pay attention. It seems the costs of many things have risen. Now if it was across the board all prices, I could understand it more. We have all experienced that there was a difficulty moving products and manufacturing shut downs. But it seems to not be everything, just specific things. Let me ask you this, a year ago if you went to a store and needed a mask, for any reason, how much would you pay for one? Now I won't step into the concept of if masks are beneficial, I'm kinda new here and a little scared, won't lie. Maybe another posts lol. But let's say you're painting, or sanding, or working and need one. You could grab one for a dollar anywhere you went.  Now, seven bucks, take it or leave it. For one mask. Now i don't mean medical masks, just the standard paper ones. Price gouging is illegal in every state. Especially in a \"state of emergency\". Have you seen this? What's your thoughts? Maybe I am just being grumpy after all. Just wondering what others have seen, experienced, and thought about it. I am one who is open to all opinions, similar or differing. Toss it out there, I'm interested. ","videos":"[]","link":"{}","pics":"[]","canComment":true,"externalShare":false}

981575 发表于 2020-07-12 14:24:32 I agree with you on the gouging. It’s mostly in the truck stops from what I e seen. Now I’m gonna throw a little twist in here! So the rona is so contagious and a deadly virus and now it has become executive order to where one in a public place and in crowds outdoors when 6 ft distancing isn’t possible. So my is! Why isn’t there hazmat containers all over the place to dispose of them properly like they do for syringes? Just been pondering that for a while. What everybody’s thought on that
","text":"Its absolutely the truck stops.  I do see it in stores as well, but seems truck stops saw the potential gouge and jumped on it.  Funny as I would think that would not be the case.  Who brings them their supplies that they oversell? Who spends their lives in a rig, behind the wheel,, and living in a bunk a third of the size of a prison cell? Who runs when no one else will? Who has kept the economy running amidst the panic? Those same people you are taking advantage of. I was always taught, don't bite the hand that feeds you.","replyToPid":388692}

{"replyTo":"","text":"I can understand supply and demand and economics. I can also understand the production shut down of meat and agriculture. Heck I can even understand the loss of sales due to restrictions on re-opening. But yes, I agree that once shortages and depletion has corrected prices will not drop back down. I can not pull any instance to mind of it ever happening before. Sadly  consumers are left with little choices. Business owners who take advantage of this to earn profit, that I cannot understand. Its not money that is the root of all evil, its the love of money that is. :/","replyToPid":0}

{"replyTo":"","text":"Lol, love then final comment. I do pay attention to signs. And have. And do tell them when the option is there.  Maybe its just havent had good luck with it. Or as I said maybe I was grumpy lol. I can say that more often than not, one of two things happen. 1. before I can get the words out of my mouth, its already rang up. When I mention the refill they say they can't change it. Or 2. I'm told, yeah we still have to charge you normal price. I will say two Pilots in a row in fact honored the refill price.  I will also say this, more than half the stops I've been to in the last month, did not have the option. Just my experiences.  Others may differ OFC.","replyToPid":0}

{"replyTo":"","text":"Most, if not all, truck stops are NOT charging you for the cups if you simply tell them you usually use a refillable mug. They mostly have signs both by the coffee/soda fountain and/or at the register. You should be used to paying attention to signs since you are a ‘professional’ driver","replyToPid":0}

{"replyTo":"","text":"Coffee and fountain soda are two of the most profitable things sold, with a profit margin of around %300. Yes, as others have said, we are being high grossed by the truck stops, mostly due to us being a captive audience. As an example, there is a Flying J in CA, I frequent a lot, across the street is a Speedway. I walk across the street to the Speedway and pay half the prise less for the exact same items at Flying J. As for overall consumer prices rising, I do not know, the CPI is near 0 right now, but their is an argument that it is not an accurate measure of true prices.","replyToPid":0}

{"replyTo":"","text":"I'm going to touch on masks first, without a mask your breath  carries your disgusting breath fluids further than 30ish Ft (I believe the study was further) in any direction. With an actual mask that drops down to less than 1-3 feet. a bandana is the worst, a paper mask  is mid range, and those N95s are the best. The mask does not protect you from getting the virus, it only hinders your ability to spread it. Take your vitamins.\nPrice gouging is acceptable within a certain threshold. Unless you do something yourself, you're always being ripped off.","replyToPid":0}
