Getting a furry companion for the road soon... Any advice for a first timer?

{"text":"Soon I will be not only a first time dog owner, but also a first time pet owner in a truck.\nHe's considered a small-medium sized dog. He is still a puppy, just 8 weeks old. I'll be picking him up from the breeder sometime in the next couple weeks.\n\nI'm asking for any/all advice, suggestions, recommendations, warnings, etc., from anyone who's been a dog owner on the road.\n\nBest food/water bowls?\nCar seat?\nPoop bags?\nToys?\nDog carrier and/or crate?\nAnything that I should watch out for? {"replyTo":"","text":"I became a fist time dog owner for my two yorkies in my truck 3 years ago. It was quite the learning experience. \n\nFor food, any bowl with rubber feet should do. For water bowl, no spill bowls are best. I use the “floating disk” water bowls. No spills even on the roughest roads and keeps the critters’ beards dry. \n\nCar seats aren’t anything I’ve used, but there are seat belt straps that clip into the seat belt and attach to their harness like a leash. \n\nPoop bags, use any, but if you have to keep dirty bags in the truck, I advise having 4 gallon trash bags to put them into for extra stink containment. \n\nFor toys I absolutely love subscribing to Bark Box. 3 toys, 2 bags of treats and 1 long lasting chew get delivered to my PO Box every month.\n\nWhile he’s still a puppy, I advise having a wire crate with a divider while he’s potty training. Give him more space every time he does better at peeing on the potty pad. I have fabric carriers for when I stay in hotels, but they aren’t necessary. \n\nFor puppy proofing, get some caulk and use it all around the bottom of the truck. Cover all holes from under the seats, under cabinets, everywhere “mistakes” can leak into. Get a truck mat for the driver floor area and train your pup to never step foot on that mat. Until he has that figured out, make a barrier around the mat completely blocking his way into the driver area. I just made a barrier out of poster board. \n\nThat’s all I’ve got for now. The breeder says he has a wonderful, pleasant, calm personality, and said he'll make a fantastic companion/support dog, which is  perfect for me!\n\nI really wish there were more suggestions, and that piece of excrement calling you a racist slur was disheartening, to say the least.","replyToPid":339920}
