{"text":"yesterday I got my engine speed (rpm threshold) bumped from 1600rpm to 2000rpm and speed bumped up to 85mph from 70mph. doing so increased my mpgs. now I get better mpgs driving 75mph with a 45k load than I did at 70mpg. no more choking!!!","videos":"[]","link":"{}","pics":"[]","canComment":true}

{"replyTo":"","text":"Every engine has a sweet spot where it is programmed to operate at optimum power, torque, and fuel economy. Different trucks have different gear ratios to do different jobs. For example OTR trucks typically are designed for 70-75mph for long hauling. Dump trucks are typically designed for a top speed of 60-65 for short distance. Swap the roles and neither one will get good fuel mileage. With a Classic Freightliner I consistently get between 6 and 6.5mpg at 71-72mph. Slow down to 60-65 I’m immediately under 6mpg and watching the boost tells the story 15-1700 rpms = 29-34lbs. 13-1500 rpms = 18-29lbs\nWith my computer setting the most efficient power is generated at 1550rpms 30lbs of boost","replyToPid":0}

{"replyTo":"","text":"I’ve heard all this stuff for years. There are scientific facts such as gravity and drag that you cannot avoid. There are studies done that prove the sweet spot for drag vs resistance vs coefficient effect is about 58 mph. Anything over that is a negative effect. Especially on non aerodynamic trucks. And the higher the speed numbers, the more of a negative effect goes, in a snowball effect. Do I suggest driving 58? Not necessarily. But don’t tell me you’re going to drive 80, then complain that you’re going bankrupt. ","replyToPid":0}

","text":"you misunderstood. I'm not driving 85mph. the truck was governed at 70mph. I opened the threshold so it can breathe. when I drove 40 miles at 75mph my mpgs did in fact increase. my last truck, a 2020 KW T680 could get 10mpg out the factory. when they governed it to 64mph you could get 8mpg on a good day. KW will tell you the same. I'm a numbers guy and I'll take mpgs over mpg any day. my motor was bogging down at 1500 rpm and it took longer to get up to speed. increasing the band allows me to stay in a gear longer which decreases my time to get up to speed from a dead stop. these motors are built to RUN not putter.","replyToPid":259796}
