{"replyTo":"","text":"I had a \"9 speed top 2\" as it was called a few years back that might qualify as \"something in between\" as 8th autoshifted to 9th, but it had a weird design/problem autoshifting down to 8th from 9th.   Couldn't just jake it down as it would stay in 9th all the way until it lugged into 7th gear's range.  Once ya downshift to 7th, the transmission wouldn't engage 7th immediately until the computer (not the driver) revved the engine up and down 3x until it decided to slam into 7th, causing the truck the jerk violently.  Several trips to freightliner dealership were worthless.  Ultimately the company disabled 8th in the computer, even though the stealerships stated it was impossible and \"left a hole in the transmission\"...  no hole, its just a skipped gear, a missing gear that was essential in climbing hills w/o dropping speed worse than a 3 cyl ford fiesta","replyToPid":0}

{"replyTo":"","text":"I should have added that tapping the brake would downshift this wonderous pile of junk transmission.  Manual is the best way, as the computer is still blind to what is ahead.  Still need a driver to KNOW the gear to be in to take a downgrade at a speed it can hold.","replyToPid":0}
