{"replyToPid":0,"replyTo":"","text":"Insurance is expensive everywhere, and since you do long haul, your insurance might not change much. Your best bet is to continue shopping and get multiple insurance quotes. Do not try to get an insurance quote directly from Progressive, Geico, or any major insurance company. What I noticed is that it’s much, much cheaper to get insurance through an insurance agency. I know it seems like this shouldn’t be the case, but whatever these agencies are doing, they’re doing a really good job at bringing down the rates by thousands of dollars.\n\n3 years ago, both Progressive and Great West were asking for something in the mid 30s. I was a “new venture” at the time. I had 5 years of experience with my CDL, clean driving record, and a very good credit score, yet my insurance was high. I asked why it was so high, and she said probably because of my age (28 at the time). So anyway, after much searching, I eventually got an insurance for about 23k (with a used semi truck and new reefer trailer). Today my insurance has gone down to 17k, lowering every single year so far. However, now that I have a much newer and expensive equipment, I’m back at 22k. My physical damage increased 5k because my truck is worth 125k.\n\nAs for Florida, it is well known for having very poor rates coming out of the state, but very high rates coming into the state. It might balance itself out somehow, depending on the seasonal freight there, but I wouldn’t bet my money on it. Florida buys a lot of products as a tourist state and a place for retired people and the wealthy, but they don’t produce much."} |
