279311 发表于 2021-06-18 03:18:25 2900-3100 miles per week. I used to drive more miles about a year ago, but it wasn’t really making me more money than today. My good paying dedicated load out of a bad zone solved that problem and also reduced my weekly miles. I’ve kind of always known that this method would work, it’s just that I’m rarely offered dedicated routes, especially on the routes that I am interested in. A portion of it was luck, and the other portion was good customer service and performance that lead to me acquiring this dedicated route.

173189 发表于 2021-06-18 03:10:54 Right on Pete. I average 480 miles five days a week 46 weeks a year. I usually take six or eight weeks off per annum. Usually one or two weeks at a time. I still keep enough that Uncle Sam can’t decide if he wants to stay in my pocket or reach into my underwear and totally violate me for doing a good job.

{"replyToPid":0,"replyTo":"","text":"Another way to look at it is that if you own your truck you should at least be doubling your money. Figure every cost-insurance, tires, parts, overhaul/truck replacement. Add every expense for a year and divide it by the miles you drove. That’s your cost per mile. If you’re at $1.18 then you want to average double that per every mile. If you’re empty half the time, you need to charge $4.72 per loaded mile. Loaded 100% of the time = $2.36 per mile. \n    Watch the numbers year over year. I actually use my  three year average on everything except fuel. That’s a rolling expense that’s easy to figure monthly. "}

","text":"I have more than doubled my inputs for the last three years, it’s really simple, either you pay my rates or I park my truck. I have a rock bottom that if I have a really good reason, I will let you talk me down to. For me that number is 20% less than my standard rate. \n    I am also not gouging people right now. I know I could make substantially more than I am right now, but I’m about building long term clientele. I explain why my rates are what they are and many times I get the work even if I’m higher than my competitors. \n    And yes, you are correct, I don’t dictate market rates, I run very few loads that aren’t handshake rates. If I’m a statistic to you, I probably won’t work for you very often. "}

{"replyTo":"","text":"Everyone that is an o/o has different circumstances. It really comes down to how much your in the hole and those monthly payments. We all have to pay for fuel, permits, insurance, etc. but the biggest factor is your debt. \nA guy can run a cheaper rate per mile that has low debt and bring home more money than a guy running a high rate per mile that has high debt. Because he is having to wait around for those few high rate loads. And more than likely have to dead head further to get to those good loads. \nI’d rather be the guy with little to no debt because you can be flexible with your rate in a competitive market and make money. It just doesn’t make sense to me to park the truck due to a low rate when you still have to pay your loan, insurance, permits, etc every month. Only thing you won’t have to pay for is the fuel that your not burning. Better to take a cheap load that will get you into a better market area with good paying loads.  Just my 2 cents on the subject. At the end of the day as long as your in the black and not the red and can live on what your making than it shouldn’t matter what the other guys are doing. ","replyToPid":0}
