{"replyTo":"","text":"I went to western express. They are definitely a 2nd chance company, and I very much regret working here.\n\nTraining period: Had to sign an agreement to work for a year or pay them 2500, NOT THE 6 MONTHS THEY TOLD ME BEFORE I DROVE TO NASHVILLE. They plan loads that you must drive as a team with your “trainer” and call it training. Zero instruction given from the trainers but I taught them some tricks. Lol. Trainer said he’s been there for 5 years and at one point when I told him that before I drive, we need to slide the tandems to go into California and weigh the truck because of the bridge law there, he replied “What’s Bridge Law?” Sigh. Not paid for orientation but you do get to stay in a hotel during it. The hotel is disgusting and has a high rate of murders, prostitution and drug overdoses at it. Only received a partial refund on gas to get to orientation. During training they pay you by the day if you are on duty for atleast 30 minutes of the day. Which is NOT THE AMOUNT PER WEEK THEY QUOTE YOU.\n\nAfter training: Recruiter prior to training said I’d make about 1200 a week. Nope! I make .34/mile and can hardly squeeze out 1500 miles with these amateur load planners and driver managers. Ive been away from family for almost 2 months and I still haven’t been routed towards home. When I asked how many days of home time I can have they said 2. Turns out it was the first offer. Everything is a negotiation here. Got them to 4 but it should be 5. The only place I really put my foot down was on the truck. Took 2.5 days of walking around the terminal and looking at trucks that were either in an accident, really high miles, disgusting or something didn’t work on it. Like the blower motor to the ac in the sleeper. That would’ve made life on the road harder than it should be. Lol One truck they had me look at, to drive OTR I remind ya... it was being parted out by the shop and had pieces of trim, body and parts missing from it.\n\nLease program: the trainer that didn’t know about bridge law was a leasee. While I was on the truck, we never left the west coast. Washington to Southern California 3 times. This screws the leasee since they pay for the fuel, scales and repairs. My “trainer” got a speeding ticket in California with me on the truck. I was terrified to watch him drive. When it was his turn, I’d strap my self into the sleeper and try to sleep. Hardly slept tho. I pointed out how the company was taking advantage of him, and he decided that I’d be his last “student”. He went solo so he could focus more on what he wants.\n\nAll and all, Western Express is the worst company I have ever driven for. They are not driver focused at all. I believe Western Express is building up their stock of office staff in anticipation of trucks going automated. This is evident by the huge cultural separation put in place at the terminals. Drivers can’t go into a majority of the buildings. Heck, their flagship Nashville terminal doesn’t even have a driver’s lounge but the office personnel have a full gym.\n\nIf I can make enough to buy out of my contract, I will. I mean, first I’ll argue that they are in breach since they didn’t actually give me any hands on training, and see if they drop it. But if it comes down to it, sometimes an expensive separation is expensive because... well it’s worth it. ","replyToPid":0} |
