Yes.\n\nWhat’s the protocol? Information. Get as much information about the road and weather on the route you’re about to travel. The internet is a fantastic tool. Talk to other drivers. Call truck stops or other businesses on the route to get real time weather reports. (That call saved my ass once in Wisconsin).\n\nEach state has a phone # that provides “travel” information. I do believe Wyoming has one. Check into that.\n\nAsk your company’s safety department (if there is one) what their protocol is. Share your concerns about  wind speed and light loads...  if the answers they provide (or don’t provide) don’t satisfy you, perhaps it’s time to look for another company.\n\nThere are plenty of GREAT companies that would be able meet your needs.\n\n\n\n","replyToPid":0}

I doubt it. \n\n45k lbs of beer kegs in a reefer unit. heavy wind hitting a flat wall... I wonder what kind of force that puts out?\n\nI know guys who have been running for 15 years plus, who wont even take their rig out if the wind is over 35mph. \n\nI dont need your sarcasm. it's probably why your ex wife doesnt talk to you anyways. \n\ndont act like you jumped on the road and day one you were just a master trucker. this was the fourth day of my solo career.","replyToPid":0}

","text":"Well when your hauling really light the wind can definitely be a major pain, your examples sound as though you were close to fully loaded which puts you in a much better position vs. the wind. Slowing down 10-15mph in high winds goes a long way in helping to control the truck that and knowing the direction the wind is hitting you from so that you can \"steer into\" it slightly that it's the wind that keeps you in your lane rather than having to counter steer constantly.","replyToPid":207376}

{"replyTo":"","text":"Just remember going down hill you can always speed up but not always be able to slow. The crazy super truckers that come off steep grades at 80+have a blinker and accelorator. Slow down for conditions or limited site /curves. Always signal .03 out from your exit others SHOULD know you're going to slow for exit. Be safe and take care.","replyToPid":0}

Signaling early and slowing down as slow as it takes to safely take the exit is just common sense. And checking the weather for the wind speed and knowing what driving speeds are safe or whether to just shutdown until the wind dies down doesn’t require extensive training or experience, it just requires thinking and working safely.
