I do notice when comparing the routes the GPS gives me and trucker path gives me they can be quite different. rand usually has a faster route, but tp keeps more updated with new roads and any construction closures","replyToPid":0}

{"replyTo":"","text":"I have 4 Rand McNally units gathering dust. I think the hardware is junk compared to a decent cell phone/tablet. I've tried a number of apps, each having strong points,  I've settled on Copilot, it's $120 per year I think. The apps seem to be more flexible than a dedicated GPS, and if you're putting in multiple stops or waypoints, apps are way, way faster. \n\nI wonder, why don't Garmin, TomTom and Rand McNally release their own apps. Of course it may hurt their hardware revenue somewhat, but I bet they'll all need a government bailout in the coming years.","replyToPid":0}

{"replyTo":"","text":"Only issue with using an app rather than a dedicated unit is LTE. Verizon had very good coverage but it's not universal. I-72 west of Springfield, Illinois has great cell coverage... just not Verizon.  If you get off the beaten path some areas have no cell coverage at all.","replyToPid":0}
