You are trapped for 10 hours. No getting out, no restroom, nothing.
But seriously, the rule basically states that you must have a total of 10 hours off. At least 2 hours of that 10 must be logged as Off Duty, Not driving. The other 8 must be logged as consecutive hours under Sleeper Berth. (If you're a day cab and stay at a motel, then the hours will all just be logged as Off Duty)
For example...If you park and log off, Off Duty, go shower, eat, walk around for an hour, climb in the sleeper for sleeper Berth for 8 hours, wake up, go back to 1 hour of Off Duty while you get your coffee and breakfast, and brush your teeth like a good little trucker, then you have fulfilled your 10 hours. You can split up the 2 hours however you want to, as long as you log the 8 hours consecutively. Of course, most people obviously can not go a full 8 hours without having to use the restroom or walk around. You do not need to change you duty status just to get up and go wee in the middle of your sleeper berth hours.
I hope that made sense

I realize that this is an unusual question for a veteran trucker. I'm going to CDL School in 2 weeks after 30 years in Corporate America. I've been off for a couple weeks and I think about things regarding my new career. I'm an avid gym rat and I'm trying to figure out how and when I can workout ( Planet Fitness) when OTR. 😁"} |
