{"text":"hi\n\ni have been driving for 1.5 years for a small company and was wondering if I should try as O/O. \n\nI mostly drive from Montreal to Usa (VA,nc,sc,wv)\n\ni am somewhat mechanically inclined and know basic stuff that a driver should know but has no vlue what would be the process for buying and running own truck. or how to get loads.\n\nA little breakdown of process would be very helpful.\n\nthank you \n\n","videos":"[]","link":"{}","pics":"[]","canComment":true}
{"replyTo":"","text":"so many variables to consider I will list a few \nfirst you have to worry about the loads are you going to drive or look for a load or look for a load while driving.the load brokering business is cut throat and this year thousands of trucks went out of business.your success doing that on your own is not high percentage.\nthere are trucks moving loads for less than 25 cents a mile. I am sure you are making more than that now. the market will think out but we are still going down.there are to many trucks available for the freight that's moving.that means bidding war for the loads the lowest price moves it.the shippers know that and they will put one truck against the other to get the lowest price.not a good environment for a new o/o with bills and loans and having to support family.you may have to Waite a couple days for a decent load.i remember last year loads paying above 2.75 us almost consistently now you may behanging on your phone to call as soon as possible on freight that pays less than a dollar.i don't want to discourage you from going on your own but maybe wait awhile keep asking if the market has changed. I forsee deep cuts in trucking companies.the worste is yet to come.my Google news had articles about trucking firms going out of business at least 6 large us firms that went down.and one that cut it's trucking force by 500 this week.","replyToPid":0}

Unless you got a lot of capital to ride out any economic storms it would be best to wait and save your money at least until you see a change in the election and/or know trucking rates have bounced back. Unfortunately I think we may slow even more in January. Good luck","replyToPid":0}
{"replyTo":"","text":"Agreed. never make a large purchase in an election year. coming up. \nAnd now is not the time to get into being an owner op. wait for the rates to come back up. then jump in","replyToPid":0}
