{"text":"September 30, 1970 – A sniper fired at a truck hauling 20 tons of dynamite along I-44 at Exit 67 Rtes T/N) in Missouri and the resulting explosion broke windows in Springfield, 12 miles away. The blast created a 30-foot deep 50-foot wide crater on the interstate. Driver John Galt, a father of four making his first run for Tri-State Motors, was killed instantly.\n\nTwo weeks prior to the incident, Teamsters Local 823 had gone on strike against the Joplin based trucking company. Two Tri-State drivers, Bobby Lee Shuler and Gerald Lee Bowden were charged with second-degree murder. Shuler was sentenced to 99 years in prison and paroled after eight years. Bowden was sentenced to ten years.
