Have very good credit and enough savings to be able to run your business for months without making a cent in case something unexpected happens, which is very likely. Plan what to do if the truck breaks down for an extended time: repair costs, tow costs, what to do with the load if you break down under load, etc... you can be the best driver in the world but if you don't know how to run a business or have a plan on what to do in the hundreds of cases that could happen as an owner operator you can find yourself out of business extremely quickly.","replyToPid":0}

{"replyTo":"","text":"I am an owner operator going 4 years now, started with a lease purchase truck, paid it off early last year and now looking to buy 3rd truck cash, current market is bad and am barely making anything after paying my 2 drivers, it's a seasonal thing so no big deal, I have a net of $6k a week after all my expenses and I'm confident rates will be much better in a year or so, it's been an overwhelming responsibility and I wouldn't advice you to take on it if you aren't ready","replyToPid":0}

Mega carriers are killing O/O with their cheap freight  they can underbid just about everyone because they have so many drivers. Hell they can use 3 drivers on one cross country load and get it there much faster than an O/O can. Plus with all the costs you have owning a truck it just seem like you would have to work all the time. Remember just because you take time off doesn’t mean your truck payment does.  ","replyToPid":0}
