{"text":"when i get home early on saturdays, as i have a tiny bit of breakfast, i watch this tv show..\n\nAmerica's Heartland - A Weekly Public Television Series Celebrating our Nation's Agriculture\n\ntoday's episode had farm kids working the farm, as young a 8 and 13 (if i recall). \n\nthis one farmer has a daughter that went to a college in the Seattle area. she was thinking of leaving the farm, to pursue other interests.\n\nher younger siblings want to go to college as well, and maybe leave the farm but come back if need be.\n\nwhat i found disturbing in this episode as well as a couple of others, is that some farmers MUST have jobs off the farm, to make ends meet, or they could very well \"lose the farm\"..\n\ni have ALWAYS believed the farmer was a MUCH NEEDED person/family, yet they get screwed by the bigger commercial farms, of the prices at the markets.\n\ni have driven thru DE and MD, and had seen \"a few\" farms turned into large housing or shopping mall developments.\n\nit's sickening to see that perfectly good land go up for auction or foreclosure.\n\nvery good tv show...comes on (my area) at 4:30 AM, on an NBC local channel....(saturdays) \n\ni DVR it just in case i get home late.","pics":"[]","canComment":true}
