{"text":"Hey guys! I got my CLP about two weeks ago and have been browsing around reddit, TT and here to figure out which is the best company to go with for company sponsored CDL training in California since this is where I have my CLP. \n\nWhen I say best I am talking about which company has a good training program and pays good money upon completion of training. I am not too much concerned with how much home time I get, I’m sure I can take it whenever I need. What’s most important to me is miles and pay. \n\n————\n\nWhat are the cpm for the company you suggest?\n\nDo they put you up in a hotel or do you have to provide your own lodging during training? \n\nAre their trucks automatic? (Not that i have an issue driving manual). \n\nDo their trucks have APU’s? \n\nHow long are you typically out? \n\nHow much can I expect to make as a new driver? \n\nDo they have a tanker, intermodal, flatbed, reefer etc. unit? \n\nAnything I haven’t asked that you can give some insight on will be greatly appreciated.","pics":"[]","canComment":true}

{"replyTo":"","text":"To be honest none of these companies are worth working for. But you need to use them as a stepping stone to get your 2 years of experience. Then you can work for real companies. When you get your 2 years in checkout Mack Trucking out of La Crescenta. It's over the road. The pay is good. In the meantime you just have to put up with greedy and selfish companies til you get your experience up. I started at USA Truck. Then went to US Xpress. They are decent for 6 months then you'll see enough to want to CDC quit. I also did JB Hunt. They tricked me into believing I would be get good pay at @.41 cpm but they didn't keep me busy. They had me on 90 day probation but I quit and went back to USX. If you can do JBHT try to get on the Target account. Guys that I met at USX orientation said don't do Werner. I'm not sure about Schneider. They may be decent. If I did it over again I'd go USX. But one thing to consider with these companies is what all you can learn from them. And can you go from being OTR to daycab and be home everynight or change to different accounts. Like running loads for Walmart, TJ Maxx or Fedex. If you decide you like being a paid tourist after 2 years then you think about owning your own truck. While you're at these companies learn as much as you can about trucks. When your truck breaks down. Talk to the mechanics and get a understanding of what's going on under the hood. Anyway I hope you find a decent company. Need stop looking for better opportunities out here. always have another company on the back burner and keep your driving record clean. CHP will write you up on the smallest things.","replyToPid":0}

{"replyTo":"","text":"USX orientation is in Irving. They will send you there and yes they pay for the hotel until you get assigned a truck. They will probably try to keep you on the east coast. If you live where the orientation is you won't need a hotel. Some companies only give you a room when you live over 50 miles from where you train or do orientation. Most orientations is 2 or 3 days. The pay depends on what account you on or if youre OTR. Most of these companies started out .30 cpm which is $18 an hr. If you not sitting in traffic. You will have bad weeks out here. The most I made as a solo was $1300 in a week. But you will average $700-$800 after taxes. It's possible to get more but these are real numbers. My worst week was $65. You should be running 1800 -2500 miles a week. It's possible to run 3000 miles. The most legit miles you can get on an ELD is 3500 before a 34 hr reset. You have to have you game face on. And good dispatcher. Companies want you out on the road to get their money's worth from paying insurance for the month. You can be out 2-4 weeks at a time. If you have friends and family everywhere that time won't even be noticed. Most companies have APUs to prevent engine wear. Plus APUs burn less fuel compared to running the engine. Manual transmission is better. Automatic can be trouble depending on whats wrong with the truck.","replyToPid":0}
