DD15 Engine replacement or another truck!?

{"text":"So the dealer told me my truck (975k miles) will need a new engine. The engine cannot be rebuilt. The cost for a “complete” new engine replacement with components like the fuel pump, air compressor, etc. and labor will be roughly 53k. I can also get a so called 3/4 new engine replacement that won’t come with the fuel pump, etc. I haven’t gotten a quote for the 3/4 engine, but I think it’s possibly about 40k.\n\nRight now I am leaning more toward buying another truck, preferably a new truck, except that there are practically no new trucks available nationwide from Freightliner, Kenworth, or Peterbilt. They’re backed up by months due to the coronavirus and a shortage of microchips that these trucks use. So maybe I’ll just try to get the newest used truck possible because the used truck sales are off the charts due to a serious shortage of new trucks.\n\nPete!!! ","text":"If I junk the truck, I’ll try to see what I can keep like the tires. Yeah, my truck is paid off.\n\nYes, the newer truck will cost more than the new engine, but the other problem I forgot to mention is that there is a delay in the availability of the engine. There are none available at the moment. I called a few Freightliners/Detroit dealers and they said it can be a wait time of up to 3 weeks to get it built and delivered. Then there’s another wait time to get it put together, which is probably 1.5 weeks. Sure, I can get a rental truck in the meantime, but it’ll be an extra expense. "}

","text":"I hate going to CA because of the traffic. It’s always super busy over there. I like it better in OR and WA. Less nonsense and the round trip long distance freight pays about the same as in CA, although during the winter it can get complicated. "}
