{"replyTo":"","text":"I can see how it can work again and again, but that’s because it keeps melting the frozen water stuck inside the locking mechanism. Also, the water left behind could be damaging the locking mechanism because frozen water expands. Your method is fine if you don’t have anything else available, but hands down the best method is to use an actual lock de-icer designed for this very purpose. The lock will not freeze again because the liquid is both a de-icer and a lubricant.\n\nThe next thing you need to do after using this lock de-icer is to cover the keyhole to prevent water from entering. You can use tape or a sandwich bag with rubber bands. Also, spray the keyholes with general lock lube (or graphite lube) (also at Walmart) so it keeps the lock working during winter. I suspect that moisture in the air could also be causing problems to the locking mechanism, possibly causing rust or who knows. If the lock is properly lubricated and covered, you’ll have less problems. ","replyToPid":0} |
