{"text":"There has been so much talk about ‘fixing’ the HOS. I’ve heard hundreds of different complaints, so I took some time to consider how I’d do it. I hope you folks can stick with me and read this through. I’d love to hear opinions and hopefully get this idea some traction!\n\n Keeping in mind that simplicity is generally the best approach, here is my thought;\n\n750 miles in 24 hours with a 10 hour break between segments. \nNo ‘required 30 minute break’. \nNo loss of time due to waiting for/on a dock. \nNo ‘penalty’ (counts against your 750) for drives between drops and pickups (under 150 miles)\n\n At any point, you’re free to stop for as long as you’d like, be it for food, a nap, a movie, a little fishing... whatever you want You would still have the rest of that 24 hours to complete 750 miles!\n\nOnce you have either A: driven 750 miles, or B: been ‘on duty’ for 24 hrs, you MUST take a minimum 10 hour break. \n\nThe 34 hour reset would also be dumped. It would turn into a 48 hour MINIMUM break. But that break is at the drivers discretion, you take it when YOU decide, not when some desk driver has decided you should. \n \n\nHere’s an example of one huge advantage with my idea: Shift starts at midnight. By noon, you’ve driven 750 miles. At 10pm, you’re ‘reset’ and good to drive again. You drive 83 miles to your next pickup and you’re all set to drive another 750 more miles. And you’ve got 24 hours (until 10pm the next night) to do that. You can still sleep for 8 hours if you want, take an hour to eat, whatever. You don’t lose any drive time because you’re not restricted to 11 hours driving in a 14 hour window! The only requirements are, no more than 750 miles under a load within any 24 hour period, unless you have taken a 10 hr break between. \n \n\nI really hope this makes sense. It certainly does to me. It would DEFINITELY let the drivers with rigs governed at 55-60 mph make decent miles so they could bring home something approaching a fair paycheck! Anyway, I’m open to questions and comments. If you like this idea, PLEASE share it around!","videos":"[]","link":"{}","pics":"[]","canComment":true,"externalShare":false} |
