","text":"To get your hazmat the first step is getting your fingerprints and background check done. Once you pass that then you do your written test. You may be able to haul freight you can’t now. But does it pay more? Not usually if you’re a company driver. If you have your own authority? The insurance cost increases drastically to haul hazmat. Many truly independents don’t mess with it. \n\nDoubles and triples.... That’s a nightmare all its own. Unless you’re going to drive for a union company such as ABF or similar I don’t think it’s worth it. I have my endorsement and have for 30 years. I’ve pulled double about 15 times is all. Way more work breaking them apart. Way more work pulling them in the winter if you’re where it snows. Now if it gets you a dedicated run that has you home often it may be worth it. {"replyTo":"","text":"I got the doubles/triples and hazmat endorsements when I got my CDL back in '93, figuring versatility.   I never pulled doubles until I started pulling double tanks in the North Dakota oilfield 20 years later hauling water.  By then, I had dropped hazmat since I spent ten years on a civilian contractor transportation contract at Ft. Campbell and the company didn't pay extra for hazmat holders or cover the background checks.   We didn't require it on post, so it simply didn't make sense.  I obtained the tank endorsement a couple of years prior to moving to North Dakota while hauling bulk def and oil at a regional job out of Nashville.   If the position you're looking at is worthwhile, get the endorsement(s) and add the experience,  if nothing else.  It just gives you more versatile options in the future, in my opinion.   The tests aren't that bad and any place that hires you for something requiring an endorsement is going to add their training anyway.  One should never stop learning,  no matter how many years out here.  Go for it and good luck.  Be safe...","replyToPid":0}
