{"replyTo":"","text":"I saw on the learning channel a story about all the mysterious happenings on Lake Superior. There is an area that has more indecent then the Bermuda triangle.  That same documentary talked about the Edmund Fitzgerald. \nLake Superior / Lake Getchegumee\nIf  I'm remembering correctly they found the Edmund Fitzgerald,  they were planning a dive down to it.  They decided to leave everything alone. Treated it as a memorial. \n\nI live in Minnesota. took the kids up the north shore a couple times a summer. We always just love it..\n\na lot of the north shore was shaped by lava flows. \nbecause of that there are agates called Last Superior Agates. \n\nThere was a state park we use to go to all the time \nGooseberry Falls . it's where the gooseberry river dumps into the lake there are multiple falls the cool part is that they are so smooth that they are a natural wet slide. \n\nThen there is the boundary waters national park and canoe area that's the area that goes from Lake of the Woods to Lake Superior between Minnesota and Canada.  one word. Incredible. \nYou can't talk about Lake Superior  with out talking about the \"smelt run\" it truly an experience.","replyToPid":0}

{"replyTo":"","text":"I spent 2 years on Lake Michigan while in the USCG. I can tell you, at the south end near Calumet city and Hammond, IN the water is green and brown. Once you hit Wilmette and go up to Michigan it is a beautiful blue. It is a little over 900 feet deep and I couldn't tell you the number of people I have pulled out of there. That thought big waves only happen on the ocean. I was in 18 foot waves in Lake Michigan in a 21 foot RHIB.","replyToPid":0}

{"replyTo":"","text":"Thank you\nI was seeing a lot about just how rough the water could be. Especially in the winter. Hence lots and lots of vessels have gone down. Makes sense that there would be a lot of rescue attempts for people. There were references that basically Superior and Michigan can be every bit as rough as the Bearing sea. It is hard to imagine that on lakes, but it aslo proves the old point to never underestimate the power of flowing water. It can eat your lunch in a heartbeat and keep on rolling like you were never there\nThanks again for sharing your information and story. And thank you for being in the USCG and helping so many people","replyToPid":0}

{"replyTo":"","text":"That was actually part of what made me want to dig into the history of the lakes 😊  One of my boys did a history report years ago about the Edmund Fitzgerald. Then I heard the Gordon Lightfoot song the other day and just figured I'd do some reading about the lakes...Been very interesting so far. Was hoping maybe to hear some first hand accounts of experiences from locals or visitors","replyToPid":0}
