{"text":"Ok drivers, I need your help with some info. is it true that trucks with automatic transmission have a better fuel economy? I'm in the market to buy a truck. {"replyTo":"","text":"It’s hard to get use to it. But it’s great once you do. The fuel economy is way better with the automatic. The new system freightliner has 12 speed economy mode puts your truck in neutral when cresting a hill and going down basically riding the hill down which saves a ton of fuel right there. Then being it’s automatic it has a computer doing the shifting at the correct rpm to not waste fuel. \n\nTell you what it’s great in traffic. They even fixed the gap between shifting. They also made it to stay at current speed in reverse so it’s much easier now not to slam into docks like it was. Also it’s like a car where you release brake in traffic truck starts rolling doesn’t have to shift into gear. ","replyToPid":0}
","text":"I was thinking about that too, I never drove an automatic on snow before. I drove manual and i feel i can have a better control of the truck. maybe I'm wrong but that's how I feel. but it is something for me to think about. thank you for pointing it out.","replyToPid":291279}
{"replyTo":"","text":"Yes they're rated higher fuel economy, especially the newer freightliner, the cruise control is adaptive based on terrain. They have an base fuel economy of 9.8mpg, the same truck in manual are at 7mpg or lower.","replyToPid":0}
{"replyToPid":0,"replyTo":"","text":"There is a major drawback on the 2020 Eaton automatics though. We have been seeing major software glitches. I have been through 3 this year. 2 Cascadias and an International. Each one had similar problems with the computers losing it between gears. One failed completely to the point it and the ECU stopped communicating. Truck forgot it had a transmission! If you check the news, maintenance issues kill a number of companies this year. Number one was DEF/emissions issues. Number two with a bullet to your head was automatic transmission issues. Fuel mileage can be better with them. I can't stand 2 and 3 week shop times when they fail."}
