{"replyTo":"","text":"Most steering axle drive ability issues are not immediately visible. The simple test I use is to jack up the suspected tire, place a block 1/4” away and spin the tire. Some one previously mentioned out of round tires, I believe, I refer to this as runout. Spinning a tire against a block gives a visual perception of the variation in a tire’s circumference. I think all tires have a slight amount of runout; some have a tolerable level. \nWhen I replace my steer tires, I always check this and try to minimize it by remounting the tire on the wheel and also adjusting the position of the wheel on the hub.\nThere are products made by Tru Balance to help center the wheel on the hub, but I think they are solving only part of the equation. The tire runout isn’t factored in.\nWhen a tire is mounted on a wheel, proper lubrication is imperative to ensure that it centers correctly.\nApologies for all the techno-nitpickieness.\n\nTakeaway \n1. The tire is literally where the rubber hits the road.\n2. Who woulda thunk tire changing is half art/ half science??😆","replyToPid":0} |
