{"text":"This is not just a rule for truck drivers but any working person.  First, let’s get a handle on inflation, because if I said 2k bring home a week I can see the eyes rolling already. That’s our problem. People think that’s a lot of money.\n\nWhen I was a kid. My father (a 8th grade drop out machinist) made  in one week net his one months rent. Back then that was 80 bucks.\n Today one person has to work almost two to three weeks to make his rent while the spouse makes up to cover the other items.\n\nAnother reminder. A hundred bucks back then filled Two shopping carts to feed 8 people. (6 kids, 2 adults). Today, I can do that in just the spot where the baby sits. So, filling two carts the way they did back then would run 2 k. That’s why I say we should be making 2 k. Not because it’s a lot of money but because in fact. It’s not a lot of money. \n\nHere in Calif the average rent now is pushing 2 to 2.5k a month.  Homes cost half a mil.\n\nI had been a owner operator. After 3 trucks I gave it up. {"replyTo":"","text":"thing is there's places other than cali to live. I live in the Midwest, south Western Minnesota to be specific. i own a 5 acre farm well the bank owns it technically. I pay $549 a month and after property taxes and insurance let's just call it $750. so for 750 a month I have a recently remodeled 3 bed 2 bath house with an attached garage on 5 acres with a big barn and a couple small out buildings. hopefully be putting a big shop up down the road. and at night I can open my windows and all I hear is crickets and the occasional car going by on the highway. \n\nI'm an owner op but 2.5 years ago when I was a company driver running regional from MN to Denver I'd take home $2k every two weeks. so paying the bills every month really wasn't a problem. it's all about where you live and one of the things I love about trucking is no matter where you live there's work and pays pretty even across the board.","replyToPid":0}
