{"text":"When it comes to road safety for truck drivers, following the speed limit, being compliant to the HOS rules, and checking one's mirrors aren't the only concerns that one should consider.\n\n\nWe might not admit it but our profession as truckers are prime candidates for having mental health concerns. While many of our fellow drivers do not mind the solace of the road, they must also consider the social toll it may take when a driver is void of Interpersonal contact for days on end.\n\n\nCommon types of mental health problems being experienced by truckers.\n\n\nOur profession as truckers requires us to spend long hours in an isolated cab on monotonous highway routes. It is, therefore, no surprise that many drivers tend to develop problems with their emotional and mental health. According to a study conducted by the National Institute of Health (NIH) found that a significant number of commercial truck drivers suffer from the following types of conditions:\n\n\n– Depression\n– Chronic loneliness\n– Anxiety\n– Chronic sleep disturbances\n– Other emotional issues\n\n\n(source: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22757596)\n\n\nTips On Improving Your Mental Health\n\n\n- Travel with a companion.\n\n\n- Contact your family or friends daily.\n\n\n- Bring along some comforts of home.\n\n\n- Take time for daily showers, and grooming routines.\n\n\n- Plan time off away from your truck.\n\n\nThe life of a trucker can be both enjoyable and successful.
