He promised home time every two weeks, but dispatchers kept pushing it to three weeks or more. Now we have two boys. What helped us the most was making the decision to get into trucking together. It's not easy – a real roller coaster for the family – but we knew our reasons and who we were sacrificing for.\nI bought my own truck less than two years later, mostly for control over my schedule. It worked out well. Sure, I still have occasional long runs, but I choose those to clear my head. You know, once you get used to the open road, it's a chance for some much-needed 'me time' without the wife's nagging, the kids' endless questions, or household chores.\n\nIt's never too late until it actually is – until we're six feet under with our final load delivered.
