It's mostly due to overcapacity, too many trucks on the road. In the late 70's there was something like 14,000 trucking companies, today there is over 530,000. shippers used to book their freight directly, now they use brokers, who take a cut of the rate. leaving less for the trucker. Which forces guys to decide between losing their truck or just making enough to pay their bills.  Sadly, the days of driving a truck being a solid middle class job are over.","replyToPid":0}

{"replyTo":"","text":"man It's so bad right now. too many truckers/bad drivers available for loads & booking them at cheaper rates to get a load so that makes brokers keep quoting lower prices, so rejection rates are bad too. 11yrs I been trucking 1st time I'm financially destitute. trying to hang on. my truck got 4mos more of pymts. I'm gonna park & go company for awhile just to get back on foot & stack some more money. get some benefits. next election gotta change this mess we in.","replyToPid":0}

{"replyTo":"","text":"i think it's a lot worse lately. my income is definitely dropping. my bank even shows me making almost half when i started my llc. right now i'm making deposits out of my earnings towards my new truck and the first couple weeks i made like $150 after expenses. no lie. so it improved again these last few weeks but the holiday will hit me hard. hope things get better for drivers as these big corporations downsize. they seem to be getting hit hardest first. o/o pay one person off 1.75. big companies pay big teams.","replyToPid":0}

But all the experts are predicting things will start to turn around eventually once all the undercutters go out of business. These \"teams\" are taking loads for single rates and just living in the truck full time. I agree something needs to be done. 40+ year highs in inflation, literally everything is much more expensive. ","text":"Exactly. They have been trying to make trucking a minimum wage job for many years. Last few years they have been successful. rates have been horrible since last December. 2021 when rates were whatever you asked too many fly by night get rich quick llcs popped up.  Hopefully they keep dying out. also always save when good times so you weather bad times.","replyToPid":477835}
