{"text":"Being an OTR driver and not getting home but every 3-4 weeks for a day or two can cause one to feel a disconnect from their hometown. That can cause the feelings of loneliness and having no roots. I thought I’d share some ideas to keep that from happening to you. I realized sometime ago that if I pull up my congregations web page and listen to the preacher I feel my home is with me. I also listen to my home town local news, even though I’m not a news watcher, just to hear their familiar voices and feel more of a connection to my hometown and what’s going on. Listening to the familiar voices of even the local commercials gives me a feeling of home and offsets the loneliness I may be feeling at that particular time. I’ll also FaceTime different family members and ask them to involve whoever is with them, while I’m on break, before or after my shift. I’ll even have Bible studies on the phone with my friends and family. I’ll share my experiences and sights with them. By doing this, it has helped me feel more “at home” OTR. \nI hope this helps you in your travels. Be safe and while driving stay 100% focused on what’s going on around you but when you’re taking that 30 minute break, or 15 to stretch or before or after your shift, try these ideas and see if it helps you. I hope it does. ","videos":"[]","link":"{}","pics":"[]","canComment":true,"externalShare":false} |
