{"replyTo":"","text":"I saw your other post that explained that you had a deadhead run. Yeah, running empty usually pays nothing. You have no legal recourse. If the broker didn’t know the weight then I’d consider not working with them in the future. That’s a big big mistake to miss the basic load information and match it to equipment that cannot legally carry it. The broker who booked the load wasn’t watching. In the future ask a lot of questions when you are getting dispatched. People will try to get you to do stuff for free or carry extra weight. Don’t feel like you have to. Make sure the weight is correct and the dimensions. Does it need to be covered? Is it perishable in any way? All the times and places should be on the rate confirmation and make sure you get a copy emailed to you for every load. Good luck, maybe you give the broker another shot. {"replyTo":"","text":"I don’t know why they call it dry van. Is there a wet van that I don’t know about?  Can we just call it van from now on? Van, reefer or flatbed. Then specialized for the oversize guys. Van pay can mean a lot of things. There are different rates for every destination in every direction for every load and change constantly. Contract rates and spot market rates can be found at dat.com/trendlines but that’s an average of all loads hauled the previous week for their respective load types. Now where you want to really look is what profit are you wanting after all costs. If you’re a company guy it’s in the neighborhood of 50 cents a mile I’m guessing. It’s easy and no headaches so it pays lower. Owner operators enjoy a higher rate but at a much greater operational cost and risk. If you take out all your costs and are near the 50 cents a mile mark then you’re taking all the risk for free which is insane. Companies will have you out here for 1.30 but after taking out your costs you’ll see you’re near the 70 cents a mile mark if you’re lucky. That’s a lot of responsibility for 20 cents a mile. I get the 1.30 from the average van rate with the carrier paying 75 percent roughly. If you find yourself in this situation then you’re making about 25 k a year over a company guy but you have all the risk of buying and maintaining the truck. Good luck 🍀 ","replyToPid":0}
