Please read | Can I get refuse a load that I have been sitting on for over 11 days?

{"text":"I drive teams with my husband but I also dispatch ourselves while on the road. Anyways, we got a load with TRKX, Inc on Sunday the 9th. Picked up our load on Monday the 10th. We knew something was up with this broker because he didn’t send our rate con until 2 hours before the pickup time. Then he took off $40 for some kind of insurance fee that he never mentioned to me before hand. I just brushed it off because we were already in the area for the load. We picked up from a cold storage and they had us back in (doors closed) and did everything from the inside. They put a seal on and we were on our way. Well when we got to Phoenix, AZ our load was rejected due to 2 pallets tipping over. \n\nI called the broker and he tells me that we have to “take care of this ourselves” because the customer isn’t open on the weekends. I thought this was also strange because normally the broker doesn’t ask the dispatcher this. He said he needed my help to find a place to do a rearrangement. I was fine with it since I didn’t want to sit on this load all week. \n\nI found a few places sent them to him via text and he tells me to “call and get an appointment set up”. At this point, I knew this guy was full of shit but I did it anyways. We got to the cold storage and he refuses to pay the people! Then lies and says that he NEVER told me to find a place (which of course, I have texts to prove him wrong). He then says his office is closed so he cant send an EFS code but will pay us back (which again, I got proof of). Come Monday, he speaks with his ‘customer’ and claims he is trying to get us more money for detention & layover pay. Although, he never mentioned getting another appointment for delivery but promises we would be empty by yesterday (Tuesday). \n\n\nWell both me and my husband have called and texted this guy and he is now ignoring us! Keep in mind this is a reefer load with -10 on the degrees. He refuses to send us a revised rate con saying that he hasn’t yet received it from the customer. But then mentioned the pay would only be between $800-$1200 for 6 days! \n\n\nMy question is, can I take this load to a cold storage and leave it there? At this point, we have lost more money than we gained and we are loosing money by the day. They are screwing us on detention pay as well... Any suggestions on what we can do to get rid of this load? \n\nBtw, I cannot find a DOT or MC # for this company at all! {"replyTo":"","text":"If they don’t have a DOT MC number they’re not legitimate. Never pull a load for a company you can’t verify them or their credit. As for the load you need to cut out the broker and deal directly with the customers on both ends. Sounds to me like he’s setting you up for an insurance claim. {"replyTo":"","text":"Thanks everyone for the advice! I reached out to the shipper and they helped me get a delivery appointment for tonight (thank god)! He ended up calling me shortly after I spoke to the shipper and we negotiated better detention pay as well. \n\nBut yes, I will definitely only work with the companies that I know. I’m not new to dispatching or driving but we rarely work with new companies. However, we had already been off for a week due to getting our truck worked on. So I decided to try an unknown company due to the rate. But at least now I will know how to avoid these situations in the future. Thanks again everyone 🙂","replyToPid":0}

Also, the shipper already knew about the situation as well, but we didn’t want to drive all the way back to Indiana from AZ. Thanks for your advice though, I will definitely do things a lot differently when booking a load from this point on! ","replyToPid":0}

{"replyTo":"","text":"No Cold Storage will accept any product without confirmation from the company that owns the product. At this rate I would call the place you picked up the load and tell them it was rejected and you are returning the rejected product to them.\n\nAs for the broker I would report them and next time only deal with reputable people. Once you book the load you should have a rate confirmation right away. \n\nA while back I was dealing with a new broker on a load from Long Island to Omaha. They had a pretty high rate on it at the time so I called and booked it. Did a carrier setup but never received a confirmation. The following day when I was supposed to pickup still no confirmation. I called and told them I was moving on. They begged me to stay on the load. I moved on to another load. They kept calling me so I blocked them. \n\nGood luck.","replyToPid":0}
