{"text":"I’m saddened by the demise of the CB radio. On the occasions that ya do find some chatter, it’s generally a pi$$ing contest over who has the most output and can make the worst insults. Either that, or it’s because there is something seriously interfering with the flow of traffic (accident, weather, etc.)... I can remember, back in the day, when truckers got together and caused a nationwide change, for the better, because we all communicated over that squawk-box! I’m talking about back in the 70’s, of course, and dating myself as well. \n\nWith the proliferation of technology, everybody nowadays has a cellphone to their ear/eyes. Nobody talks. Truckers are becoming, more and more, wandering hermits. As a result, we have things like the ELD Regs put in place by people who base their ‘knowledge’ on assorted studies and scientific opinion as opposed to experience and first-hand knowledge! \n\nThe less we can communicate with each other, the worse it will get. Just like in a relationship, if you don’t talk, it all goes wrong. I’m watching it happen and I’m sad that it seems I am the only one concerned about it. I’d love to read your thoughts and comments, so please, speak up!","videos":"[]","link":"{}","pics":"[]","canComment":true,"externalShare":false}

{"replyTo":"","text":"Folks, they do have a CB radio app for your phone, just illegal to hold your phone in more and more states. Hell, even in the 90’s when I started the CB was still an active media. Like the record player ( dating myself) it might get lost in time. The CB is the only uncensored source left. I agree, drivers let’s bring the CB back to life. ","replyToPid":0}

{"replyTo":"","text":"This is a fantastic thread. The good old days were before my time, but I have noticed a growing trend in less friendly and more borderline schizophrenic-like behavior from drivers since I started 10 years ago. A lot can change in a short time, especially with tech. My first round of OTR started back in 2010 and in terms of driver morale things have really gone downhill. Because of this effect convenience has on the human psyche, it’s more important than ever to be a little tough on ourselves and push ourselves to get out of our own heads and try to adopt a more relaxed and open worldview. I’m an introvert, so I get not always feeling like being outgoing and being content with some quality alone time, but we need to find a better balance here. Humanity is what ignites our interest and it would behoove us all to work towards generating more of it. The trucking industry has suffered a great deal in recent years in the way the public views it. We very much need to take more seriously the idealism that comes with the tactility of the job. We’re the ones who enable and support society, and we would be wise to display such a position. ","replyToPid":0}

{"replyTo":"","text":"Well, on the other hand, when truckers get together to get things accomplished you end up with hours of service rules. 🤣😜\nThat's how they came about, truckers begging the government to do something about the hours they were being made to work. I still say trucking is one of the few  areas of employment where a union would still be useful.","replyToPid":0}

{"replyTo":"","text":"Yep, I’ve noticed it too. It seems few OTR drivers monitor ch. 19. However, around seaports, rock quarries, and big paper mills, you do hear a lot of chatter from the local drivers.  ","replyToPid":0}

{"replyToPid":0,"replyTo":"","text":"There was more camaraderie in the past, in trucking. I think tighter schedules are partly to blame. Also the cellphone has allowed us to call for help rather than rely on each other. Technology has had a big part in the lack of  communication of the trucking brother and sisterhood. We’ll be replaced by technology someday they keep threatening. The laws will loosen up if people have to do without for more than 5 minutes but that would take a huge effort on truckers to stand together. "}
