Advice for an Owne/Lease Operator with an accident

{"text":"Hi everyone, I have a question as far as dealing with a backing accident. Keep in mind I’m an owner operator. I hope this is allowed. I tried researching on google/forums for similar situations, and couldn’t find anything. \n\nBack in September, I was hit by another truck and I didn’t have my dashcam set up. Of course, they took off. No witnesses, no cameras in the parking lot, nothing. Although the process took 2 1/2 weeks and I didn’t know who hit me, I was given some compensation and my insurance experience was fairly pleasant. \n\nLast week I was hit again, except this time I have clear footage from my dash cam, and the driver stayed. We swapped information and I went straight to get a repair estimate. I thought that because I know who hit me, and have clear proof of the incident this would be easier. So far it’s been a nightmare. \n\nI’m looking for advice from this community to see what I should be asking/requesting from their insurance company. What should I be fighting for. What are acceptable/reasonable things to ask for. Currently I have been down 5 days and counting. \n\nSome other things to consider about my situation. I contacted my insurance first. I thought they handled everything and would do the due diligence and leg work for me. I didn’t contact the other insurance company to start a claim with the at-fault company until 5 days later due to the fact that I wasn’t told until later to contact them. Although the damage isn’t bad, I was advised by several people not to continue driving the truck due to safety/DOT related issues. I’m 650 miles from home. I didn’t get a rental truck simply due to the fact that I wasn’t sure if it would be covered by the insurance company. \n\nThank you all in advance for the advice, stay safe drivers.
