I know some places require the tandems to be slid all the way to the rear before they will load.

542330 发表于 2019-12-05 18:33:17 Once you have weighed your truck enough you’ll find a good spot where to start off at. I generally start at 3rd hole which is preset for my company. We can’t go any further forward with the tandems. \n\nThis way if I’m over on the drives they need to rework it. \n\nI find all the way forward is best because if you are good on that then that’s what you want to roll with for the smoothest ride. Not to mention less weight on the drives mean less wear on drive tires.
","text":"Why again do you want less weight on the drives?  Please explain other then less wear on the drive tires, if you would be so kind. \n\nAnd how with the tandems kicked all the way up would  give the smoothest ride? \n\nAnd why are you giving this advice?","replyToPid":275371}

{"replyTo":"","text":"Allene Rose, \n\nMore often then not they want the tandems kicked to the rear is to prevent damage to the trailer on the load and unload by heavy machinery.  Docks have different degrees of slant or grade and if the tandems are kicked to the nose damage may happen. Also forklifts may have a harder time getting in or out with heavier freight, especially in inclement weather(wet trailers at the rear).  Lastly, yard mules the shuffle trailers day in and day out get used to a certain swing when backing in and pulling out trialers, especially in tight areas.  With all the tandems kicked back the increases efficocy, less accidents and faster hostelimg of.trialers.","replyToPid":0}

{"replyTo":"","text":"Also, there are other states other then CA that have a bridge law, and enforce it. \n\nAs far as where you should set your tandems after being loaded? \n\nWhat freght are you hauling? Dry, reefer? tankers, specialized? \n\nDo you check your Load sheet and see what's on the truck? Nose heavy? tail heavy?  both?  \n\nI can't really give advice on where you should set your tandems prior to scale, but you can  figure out what each pallet weighs from your paperwork, do a little math and see what's sitting over your drives and tandems. Once you get a idea of the weight your loaded with you can better gauge where to set prior to scale. \n\nSo I would say, at the very least always scale especially if your company pays for it, make sure your load is properly balanced,  blocked, braced and secured.  \n\nGood luck Driver!\n\nCheers!!","replyToPid":0}

","text":"Less weight on drives means less work on those tires. If it’s a company trailer you would rather have those tires carry the most weight. Also it gives you room to carry as much fuel as you can. \n\nTry driving down the road with your tandems all the way to the rear. Bounces your tractor way more because of the bigger gap between your drives and tandems. \n\nI’m giving this advice to be helpful from my exp. it’s up to you to take it or not. I’ve been driving for 22 years 7 of them I was an owner op with 3 trucks ","replyToPid":276598}

{"replyTo":"","text":"I didmt ask for exp, or the equipment you ran or had. That's irrelevant. \n\nLess weight on the nose, means less weight on the drives, which mean less traction, which could potentially mean a imbalmced load, which coulld mean a lawsuit in the event of an accident.\n\nTires will wear either way, just because there maybe slightly less weight on your drives doesn't mean the tires will magically float above the asphalt and last twice a long.  That has to be the most ridiculous assehein claim I've ever read. \n \nYou stated that you prefer all the way forward with your tandems?  So you would rather be tail heavy then? In the event you should have to lock em up? In foul weather where is that weight gonna swing? Or come around a corner on a nice sheet of black ice? The trailer could potentially  come outt from under you with the weight kicked to the back.\n\nAs far as fuel goes? Even with 2 150gl  tanks running at half full your less 1k lbs? give or take? Fuel was never part of my original question so that doesn't matter either way and not sure were that really comes into.play with your response.  \n\nSorry bro, but what you wrote makes zero sense.","replyToPid":0}

{"replyTo":"","text":"One more thought? You start at the 3rd hole because your company is preset and you can't move your tandems any further foward so you just go back and have the load reworked.  Is that for all loads?  Can you even of you can adjust the 5th?\n\nOr is that preset and are you not allowed to do that? \n\nAgain, the only thing you wrote that made any sense for the driver who posted was, \"Once you weigh your truck enough  you'll find a good spot to start at.\"","replyToPid":0}

{"replyToPid":0,"replyTo":"","text":"Crap, just one more point. \n\nJust because Im stretched out all the way doesn't not mean the trailer is going to be bounce my tractor all over the place \n\nIts all dependent on the load and weight disbursement over your drives and where your tamdems are going to be set. That's the determining factor in how the ride will be.\n\nCheers!"}
