First trucking job without OTR experience?

{"text":"Tennessee Truck Driving School will let my buddy go to school for free but he have to take 6 months OTR home every other weekend with a trainer. \n\nHis wife is not on board with this idea since they have three small kids and she’d have nobody to help her. \n\nIf my buddy paid for school himdelf, would he be able to get a local driving job without OTR experience?\n\nWill companies hire him at entry level fresh out of school? He want to be home every night and spend as much time as possible at home but he really want to get this cdl and start driving.\n\nIs my Buddy's dreams unreasonable?
