What is the life of a truck driver like? Do they have to stay away from family for long periods of time?

{"text":"Its my life. If you're a long hauler than yes you'll be away from home when being a truck driver. I basically live in the road with my fellow truck driver. But some truck driver wants to come home every night which they do local truck driving. The longer away on the road the more money you get pay. Keep your wheels rolling in the road.\n\nBeing on a truck driver on the road is pretty dandy fine. I love seeing new stuff out in the road. Listen to my country music on my iPhone 8 that is plug in my radio to play it on the speaker. Life as a truck driver is basically driving out in the road all day. Drive for 8 hours everyday and 14 hour break after driving. When I'm on break I inspect my truck so my load is strap down properly from preventing the cargo falling. Afterward I go in the truck stop to grab dinner and eat in my truck. Finally, I'm off to bed. I sleep great in my truck. {"replyTo":"","text":"being a OTR DRIVER wouldn't be bad if the companies that everyone worked for would get the driver's home weekly.\nThe problem is that the dispatch doesn't understand what it is like on the road. I've always said every Dispatcher should have to make 1 cross country trip yearly. That means they have to do everything the driver does. example: living like the drivers, live loads/unloads, shower at truck stops, etc etc. \nThen they would understand the life of an OTR DRIVER.\nSo the real question is? Why can some Trucking companies set a logistics to be able to relay loads so drivers could get home nightly or every other night. \nBut there are some drivers who enjoy being on the road. that's good for them. \nEither way it would be great. But I'm sure the Trucking companies would find a way to pay the drivers less because they would  be home Frequently.","replyToPid":0}
