DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!\nLoses GPS signal frequently, has taken me down non truck roads (scary), turns off at random, has a set way to take you to your destination, and if you decide to vary from that for what ever reason, it will NEVER accept that new route. But better, a map can't and won't tell you if there is a wreck 22 miles up the road, or a speed trap, traffic delays. In today time constraints, a GPS can almost instantly tell you the best route .vs pulling over to plan a route should something go awry on you trip....wasting D.O.T hours. And used correctly, I.E follow the check the route it's sending you on to make sure it's not going to get you in a bind, it's a very valuable tool. Key is to make sure it's not setting you up as a truck driver. would one use a screw driver as a hammer? No.

","text":"Oh yes absolutely. But that’s why I have a cb to communicate with other drivers about speed traps and slow downs or brake checks. Used in addition to a gps a road atlas is very effective especially in getting a new driver up to par with the old timers on routes and roads and being able to figure where you are and how close you are to truck stops and other amenities much more quickly. But setting up your trip with a good ole road atlas will help you to learn the roads you’ll be taking faster, and help you devise alternate routes better for the next time you know you’ll be stuck by a construction/work zone. I don’t fully trust either gps and I was thinking about getting one too but I just feel like I don’t want to spend the money when I’ll still have to read the signs and do everything I do right now. {"replyTo":"","text":"The new RM is a 600 dollar paper weight collecting dust on my top bunk.  Love my garmin, only bought the RM as a backup because my garmin is getting old.  \nI run a lot of permitted routes and the garmin is much easier for me to plug in all the different turns and points I need to pay attention to when it's not practical or safe to try and read the tiny print on the permits in traffic specially when I'm running without an escort.  Buttons are bigger for ease of navigation to find truck stops or parking while driving, you don't have to hunt after the first couple times muscle memory kicks in and it's easy to do without looking.\nGoogle maps is great for getting general idea of route in and out of an area, getting aerial view of which driveways you need to go in ect but as others have said not designed for big trucks so don't rely on it solely.   And a giant laminated road atlas is a must.  I use a dry erase marker on mine to draw my route out.  Because with anything electronic it will at the most inconvenient times power off, get itself lost or get stuck in limbo.","replyToPid":0}
