FOB - Fear of Backing!

{"text":"New solo OTR, and i feel neither my CDL school or Company training adequately prepared me for complex backing maneuvers in tight spaces where a traditional setup is just not possible.  For example, i have a delivery coming up to Keller Supply at 18317 Northeast 76th St in Redmond, WA.  Looks impossible to get a semi into the lot and backed up to the doors.  Would appreciate any suggestions from anyone who has the time to look at the Google satellite and Street Views.  To me it looks like all you can do is hope the lot is clear, pull on and as far forward of the doors as possible, then wiggle back and forth to get the trailer lined up with a door.  Surely trying to back off the street onto the lot and back to the doors is not a feasible option.  Both sound like a nightmare! {"replyTo":"","text":"I use the st view all the time, I've been at this for 7 years.. nothing wrong with knowing where you are going! especially these shippers and receivers or brokers give u lousy addresses.. anywho, no they do teach you enough to pass and now it's on you in real world situations.. dont every feel like you cant ask another driver for help and if not.. TAKE 30 MINS TO GET IN THERE!!!! as long as u didn't hit anything use it as what to look for and what not..  believe in yourself you got this!!!!","replyToPid":0}

","text":"Thanks for all the helpful and supportive posts.  The lot was bigger than it looked on my smart phone, so plenty of room at the doors near the street, but they wanted me in the far doors.  Fence in front of those made backing toward the door difficult with tandoms back, but I got it pretty quick.  Did another in Seattle this morning that was backing off a car-lined street and down a hill to the dock.  Had dreaded that one too, but again got it in without too much fanfare.  Guess I won't quit just yet!","replyToPid":141497}

{"replyTo":"","text":"docks are probably closest to the street. sloping down. either way you come in, come close to the front of the dock and cut left. slow. aim truck width away from that fence on the right. as you are cutting left keep an eye on the trailer end. once you start seeing docks  cut it right to aim the trailer where you want it. think of the trailer as the point of an arrow, but if your tractor is not lined up with the arrows body you can't easily control it. small steering wheel turns 1/4 at a time. you are not a humming bird swinging wildly left to right. if you find yourself wildly turning your wheel, get in a habit of stopping your tractor in front of the trailer and see what the trailer is doing.  good luck.","replyToPid":0}

","text":"lol I go to South City and Frisco to do my deliveries all the time and Everytime I'm there I get goosebumps... lol... call me Chicken or whatever for all you new drivers remember backing up is the most dangerous time., new, old , experience or not.\nJust take your time GOAL and ask for help if anyone is looking trust me not just anybody can back up a 20,30,40.. 53 foot beautiful trailer into a Mark spot.\nkeep trucking my Bros and Sis.\nmistakes will make you better no doubt. been there done that ✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️","replyToPid":140316}
