{"replyTo":"","text":"bridge laws have nothing to do with bridges. like Hoppy said, it is so you do not exceed weight rating of the trailer between \"bridged\" axles. this goes for ALL axle bridges unless a multi axle trailer, such as those that have 3 or more axles on the trailer. i have seen trailers have as many as 40 axles (the M1A Abrahms tank hauler)\n\nkingpin to center of last axle is for tight turn radius in certain jurisdictions like CA and certain state routes in various states.","replyToPid":0}

{"replyTo":"","text":"when 53's first came out there were problems with trailers breaking in half so the states came up with the bridge law to keep from over loading the gap between the tractor axles and the trailer axles .... that is how a very friendly Florida DOT officer explained it to me one night right before he gave me a ticket for exceeding the FL bridge law","replyToPid":0}

In each states info is truck restricted roads, bridge law info, etc. I use my atlas all the time. Also, at the end of the day, if you have questions CALL that states Highway Patrol/DOT number. They’ll give you all the info you need. I’ve called Oregon and CA plenty of times. "}

","text":"yes they do , as others have said a good map book will give you the different rules of each state and contact numbers for state offices if you need further assistance.  i won't leave home without my map book"}
