Splitter (18 speed) grinding

{"text":"So I have an 18 speed and shifting direct (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8) at any RPM’s shifts fine. But when I’m loaded and driving it like a 13 speed as in when I flip my range selector up from 4 to 5 then split to 5Hi to 6lo it grinds and I have to rev it up so it goes into gear. It does this anytime I go from the hi side of the gear while upshifting to the next gear on the low side. Was reading about it and they said the synchronizer might be bad. Has anyone else had this problem and what was the solution? Truck is in the shop no getting turbo replaced and asked them to check out the back side of the transmission. Is there any other info I could possibly tell the mechanic that might help him find the problem if they overlook something?","videos":"[]","link":"{}","pics":"[]","canComment":true,"externalShare":false}

{"replyTo":"","text":"You have, most likely a loose pin in the synchronizer in the back box, possibly even a broken pin. The pins have steps on them that match closely with the stepped holes they ride in on the synchronizer ring. This happens a lot. It only takes a loose pin to drop out of line with the ring a few thousands and they hang up and grind. I am pretty sure this is your problem. Also look for driveline problems as driveline vibrations is the major cause of loose or broken syncro pins.","replyToPid":0}
