Typical American worker gets 8 days a month off and home every night so if a company only lets you spend a couple days a month home, walk away NOW. If you are a well adjusted feller with a special someone back home though... I would recommend finding something local, or at least regional. May not pay as well but what good is money if you’re miserable?
