{"text":"Ok so this is why Swift drivers are relentlessly singled out.. today at a relatively small customer I'm waiting for a door to become available. Here comes Swift (female African American driver) The are 4 open slots.  She lines up for spot next to me. After 20 minutes of working her tractor nose from the left to the right side of the parking lot she finishes mid lane and parks. wtf!\n","videos":"[]","link":"{}","pics":"[{\"description\":\"\",\"height\":1512.0,\"name\":\"\",\"url\":\"\",\"width\":2016.0}]","canComment":true,"externalShare":false}

916563 发表于 2020-02-20 18:09:45 I’m a new driver (CDL holder for less than a month) for Swift and while training was on the short side it was longer than CR England training (I looked into them before I chose Swift) I had to fight for more training on backing and flat out refused to drive on the road until I had backing down pat. The other guy training with me refused to admit to the trainers that he needed more help with backing so he struggled and barely passed his skills test and will probably be one of those Swift drivers. As with any company and any training you have to speak up when you know you need more help. She really should have done a get out and look to make sure of what the heck she was doing or at the very least asked for help. You can’t be shy when you are driving one of these. They’re huge and take up a lot of space.
","text":"Well said...another reason is after the student gets out on the road to train with a \"mentor\", that person is supposed to help with increasing the student's ability to do all the things that pertain to driving.  Most often these \"mentors\" don't pass on the knowledge that they need and use them for extra miles to make more money. I know this because I used to drive for them and spoke to many rookies who still didn't have a clue. ","replyToPid":328985}

916563 发表于 2020-02-20 19:13:21 Exactly. But again, sometimes you have to speak up. If you aren’t getting the knowledge you need, demand it. I know pride gets in the way for a lot of people but when it comes to driving one of these vehicles, pride goes out the window. At the end of the day, I want myself and everyone around me to get home safely with no issues. I may take 20 minutes to figure parking out on occasion or take a curve slower than most but I’m learning and fleshing these things out to understand what I can and can’t handle. The other guy who was training with me didn’t want to admit he needed help because he “didn’t want to make waves.” Eventually I spoke up for him because it was driving me nuts that he wouldn’t ask for more help. I’m lucky that I have a good mentor. She can be a bit of a control freak though and sometimes I have to get her to stop telling me how to do things because she micromanages it which doesn’t help me learn what’s happening with the trailer as much as doing it on my own does. But most of the time she guides me pretty well I think. A couple things she has kind of glossed over but I talk to other drivers and get more in depth information about it and I’m good. You really can’t be shy about learning these trucks. Heck even YouTube is a good source. That one helped me figure out alley docking and pre-trip way better than the academy did.

{"replyToPid":0,"replyTo":"","text":"Yep. They don’t bother training their drivers. All Kevin Knight cares about is market share. And he achieves that by running cost analyses on things like paying drivers for proper training or driver retention items such as APU’s and cuts them from the budget to make room for more trailers to make Walmart happy. They’re a big part of what’s wrong with the industry "}

{"replyTo":"","text":"I learned a long time ago that nobody knows you need help unless you speak up and making waves is how you get things done sometimes. I also learned when to pick my battles. Some days I can’t do a straight line back down an airpot runway so I start looking for pull throughs and stay as far away from other trucks and objects as possible. On those days I get out and ask someone to please take pity on me and help guide me in when I can’t avoid it. Most people are happy to help because they don’t want you to hit them any more than you want to hit them. And I AWAYS assume I have way less space to maneuver than I actually do. That way if I look like I am even remotely drifting too close, I make corrections quickly and/or pull forward. It may annoy other truckers but in the end, I think they would prefer I didn’t hit them. By the time I get into a spot I’m usually perfectly centered because of how paranoid I am about being too close on either side haha. I figure speed will come with practice. For now, I care about precision and no damages to anything. ","replyToPid":0}
