Please give advise... need your opinion. What should you know first before becoming an owner/operator?

We can’t tell you what you want, just what it’s like financially. It can be great being your own boss and doing things your way or it could be a net sum zero. Generally speaking, it’s upwards of 1.25$ per mile to operate a class 8 semi truck for over 100k miles annually. The low side would be .80 cents a mile roughly. This varies depending on what your contract is to your carrier and if your truck is paid off. So if you’re not grossing 1.75$ I’d say wait until you find a company with that type of contract. There probably aren’t very many.  That’s the tough part. Getting a loan to buy a truck and driving it is easy compared to finding a good contract.
